At the Institute of Human Genetics, University Hospital of Cologne (Germany) a

Junior Research Group Leader

position is available for a MD, MD/PhD or PhD for 5 years with the possibility to be changed into a permanent position.

The successful candidate should have an outstanding scientific track record in the field of molecular and medical genetics. The establishment of this new research group should enforce the research in one of the following fields: genetics and molecular biology of neuro- and neuromuscular diseases, age-related diseases, skeletal, cardiovascular, kidney or neurosensory disorders.
Furthermore it should strengthen the genetic counselling and molecular genetic diagnosis at the Institute of Human Genetics. The group will be structurally integrated into the Institute of Human Genetics (http://www.humangenetik.uni-koeln.de) at the University Hospital of Cologne.
As an academic Institution we also expect a contribution in teaching.
The Institute offers the possibility of full specialist training in Medical Genetics (Facharzt für Humangenetik or Fachhumangenetiker GfH). Furthermore, the applicant will be supported to obtain his/her Habilitation.

The Institute and the University campus offer an excellent scientific environment (CECAD, CMMC, various SFBs). Well equipped laboratory space will be provided. Additional local funding opportunities are possible.

If the applicant succeeds in getting an Emmy-Noether award (DFG) or similar award for 5 years the faculty will change the position into a permanent one.
